About Grinnell UCC Community Preschool
The UCC Community Preschool has two key goals-to teach children to get along with others and to enhance each child’s self-esteem. Preschool activities also encourage a child’s awareness of self and the community through varied experiences with classroom materials, stories, dramatic play, music, art and field trips. Students participate in outdoor play for large and small motor skill development. The school is non-denominational and open to all. Three-year olds attend on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-11:45 am. Four and five-year olds meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 - 11:45 am. We also offer a mixed-age class that meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons from 12:00-2:45.
The UCC Preschool provides a warm, welcoming environment for young children to learn. Play is the essential ingredient of our preschool program. Each school day provides opportunity for play and interaction between students as well as planned activities with teacher guidance. Students at UCC preschool practice following directions, large and small motor skills, language development, literacy, creativity and imagination, dramatic play, music, art, math, science, and social activity. Students are prepared for literacy through reading aloud, song, and word play. Students will have the opportunity to explore math using visuals and a hands-on approach to develop their skills using the Bridges Math Curriculum.
